Vicinay Marine follows the principles of sustainable development and believes that company economic development should be based on ethical and social values, taking responsibility for the environment and all those involved with its business: co-workers, customers, suppliers, shareholders, local and national governments and society generally.

Staff

For Vicinay Marine, people are its most important asset. We have people in different geographical locations and, hence, with different cultures, which gives the Group its cultural and creative wealth.

Consensus is one of the values of Vicinay Marine, which seeks to foster communication, dialogue, transparency and shared responsibility by forming teams that involve everybody at the organisation. In this sense, Vicinay Marine works towards a single goal: excellence in its scope of action.

To achieve this, having qualified, quality teams is a necessary condition of company performance that is achieved through the introduction of plans for professional development, worklife balance, safety conditions and social benefits.

The implementation of policies ensuring the selection of the best candidates and promoting the creation of a safe and respectful environment leads to the formation of motivated and committed teams.

DIVERSITY, EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES AND WORK-LIFE BALANCE

The ability to do the job and identification with the values of Vicinay Marine are the only criteria when hiring, so staff recruitment is based on the principle of nondiscrimination, thus ensuring diversity and equal opportunities.

In their selection of candidates, Vicinay Marine companies work closely with universities and educational centres and institutions such as the Novia Salcedo Foundation in the case of Vicinay Cadenas. This form of recruitment plays an important social role in the current context by helping young people to find employment.

Equal opportunities

Vicinay Marine ensures that men and women earn the same pay for the same job. At Vicinay Cadenas, the policy of non-discrimination for reasons of sex has led to a project to automate heavy machinery to allow women access to factory jobs. Brasilamarras is another example, with women progressively taking on tasks traditionally performed by men.

With regard to positions of responsibility, at Vicinay Cadenas, 60% of processes are coordinated/ led by a woman. In FMAC, men and women have equal promotion options, as evidenced by the ratio of women to men in management positions.

Work-life balance

The companies of the Vicinay Marine Group allow staff to opt for reduced working hours, career breaks and flexitime if they wish to take advantage of this option. Maternity/paternity leave goes beyond strict compliance with the laws applicable in each country. For example, at Vicinay Cadenas, maternity leave is 25% longer and paternity leave is 30% longer than that set out in the legislation.

Environment

Social Responsibility as a value at Vicinay Marine has led to the implementation of a strategy characterized by coherence, consistency, commitment and ethical behaviour in relation to people, society and the environment. Respect for and the protection of the environment is among the key aims of the organization.

Regulatory compliance

The strategic decision to go beyond mere legal compliance involves a constant concern for maintaining the different certifications based on the global reference standards of the most prestigious Classification Societies, which entails a search for continuous improvement in pollution prevention and the reduction of generated waste.

Energy efficiency and climate change

The products manufactured and marketed by Vicinay Marine require a production process with high-energy demand. Of all the stages of production, the one requiring the greatest consumption is traditionally the preheating of the material. And this is where we have worked to improve energy efficiency over the past ten years. Vicinay Cadenas has been replacing the fuel used in its furnaces with a less polluting one. Brasilamarras has also done the same, replacing its gas furnaces with electric heaters in 2011.

The treatment and management of water used in its production processes is another concern of the Vicinay Marine business group. Along these lines, Ramnäs has increased the number of water tests it performs each year.

Safety

Training, awareness and information about healthy lifestyles are key aspects of people safety at the Vicinay Marine Group. These three pillars constitute a preventive management model that helps to identify risks with a view to their prevention and to reduce accidents in order to create a healthy and safe work environment.

This commitment ties in with one of the core values of the Vicinay Marine Group. Safety as a right and responsibility during the performance of one’s tasks. Hence, the Group’s subsidiaries have health and safety certificates and new staff are given specific safety training before they start at the company, as are customers and suppliers before they visit the premises.

Quality

The companies that make up Vicinay Marine work continuously to come up with latest generation, quality products that meet the requirements of their customers. Hence, they work with steel grades in specific compositions whose alloy alterations produce offshore chain grades R4 and R5, and the future R6, currently under development.

Vicinay Marine quality processes begin with the certification of their plants, prior to the approval of the latter for product manufacture, taking into account quality and diameter.
